Vermiculite

Vermiculite is a mineral and like perlite is heated to expansion. Unlike perlite it contains some mineral properties (mainly potassium and magnesium), slightly alkaline. Toxic to most carnivorous plants but very helpful to a few. Most Nepenthes like vermiculite and some Mexican butterworts do too. Generally should be used at less than 20% of mix. It creates a porous, absorbent soil slightly richer than most carnivorous plant soils. Generally needs replaced every few years.

Vermiculite should be available at most lawn and garden centers. Just make sure it is chemical free.

We offer all of the listed carnivorous plant soil parts, and various mixes thereof, by the quart and gallon. Click the "CP Soil" link above to go to the store.
You can learn about other carnivorous plant soils by clicking on their names above.

Which is highly recommended.
