All Dionaea muscipula, Venus Flytrap, work with the same Tissue Culture techniques & media.
Dionaea muscipula Tissue Culture fine without hormones. Hormones are used to create a lot of plants.
"S.W. Giant" Venus Flytrap from 2 seeds in plain media! Time: 6 Months
If you use hormones transfer to hormone free media after 8 - 16 weeks or after good leaf formation is achieved. Transfer to rooting media if needed. 2 ml/L NAA (1mg/ml)for rooting. Most will develop roots on their own in plain media.
Leaves
Pluck the flytrap leaf off from the bulb with a downward tug. You want to get a piece of the white bulb. Cut off the trap.
Flower Stalks
Wait for the stalk to grow app. 2 - 2½" high then cut as low as you can without harming the flytrap. Optionally you can take the flower stalk at anytime and cut into 2" sections. It is possible to collect the seed AND use the stalk for tissue culture.
Media:
4 cups water | 1/2 teaspoon MS w/Vitamins (50% MS)| 2.5 tablespoons sugar (30g) | 1.5 ml PPM | 3 ml BAP(1mg/ml) | PH 5.6 - 5.7
For seeds leave out BAP and don't forget they have to be stratified. Some people say stratification is not needed for most types of Flytrap seeds. I get excellent results stratifing with Gibberellic Acid and crappy results without.
Flytraps generally take longer to start dividing than most of the other carnivorous plants.
Sterilizing flytrap leaves and rhizomes can be a bit tricky. The above works more often than not but soaking in a 1-50 PPM (2%) solution after sterilization for 30 minutes to an hour will help immensely. Do not rinse after the PPM soak, transfer directly to media.
